Leadership: The Art of Making what was once thought to be impossible… Possible!
A true leader has the ability to look beyond todays limitations and see what could be possible for tomorrow.
The fact is… there has never been something that the human mind has not been able to achieve unless we give up on it!
A great illustration of this came when Henry Ford wanted to produce a V8 engine. His expert engineers told him it was impossible but Ford’s persistence payed off.
Shortly after his engineers took on the task of designing the V8 engine, they came back and told him it was impossible. Henry simply told them to back it and make a design that will produce the V8 engine.
I could only imagine what was being said by the people who, in their minds, thought this was impossible.
Well they did it! They produced the V8 engine.
Henry Ford is famous for his persistence and he also had the ability to lock his mind onto something and with the help of those around him made what was thought to be impossible… possible!
Leadership calls for the ability to look at things differently and also to be able to look past today’s limitations and to see how things can be.
The key question when looking for possibilities is…
How can we do it?
And then never give up on the vision.
Persistence is also a key component of this. We would not be enjoying the luxury of the V8 engine by Ford or the electric light bulb by Thomas Edison if it weren’t for the possibility thinking of these two great leaders.
